Producer Companies are seen is a viable options in bringing farmers together in addressing the scale for accessing the market, while also providing access to inputs, credit and competitive rates. Keeping with the current trends, CIKS along with Vrutti Livelihood Resource Centre has established two Agriculture Producer Companies, Marutham Sustainable Agriculture Producer Company Limited (MSAPCL) in Tiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu and Valanadu Sustainable Agriculture Producer Company Limited (VSAPC) in Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu on 21 August 2013 and 20 November 2013 respectively.

Both these companies have an authorized share capital of Rs. 25 lakhs each and together cater to the benefits of more than 5,000 farmers. As of March 2014, 2,299 farmers are registered shareholders in these companies, of which 46% are women and 86% are small and marginal farmers. Of the 13 Directors in each company, 6 are women members in the MSAPCL Board while in VSAPCL 2 are members of the Board. Total turnover during the financial year 2013-14, was more than 17 lakhs for each of these companies and more than 1,770 farmers were directly benefited. The products handled by these companies include, indigenous paddy varieties and organic certified products, pulses, groundnut, value added products, seeds and other inputs required by the farmers. Many of the inputs required for organic farming are produced by the Women Self Help Groups (SHG) and made available through the companies to individual farmers. Enterprises run by these companies include, eight vermicompost units, three value addition units and one neem oil soap unit, providing employment for 111 women SHG members. Capacity building for the farmers and Board of Directors is also being imparted on leadership and business management along with exposure visits to other Producer Companies, such as Chetna Organic Agriculture Producer Company Ltd., Hyderabad, Kabini Organics Farmers Producer Company Ltd., Mysore and Kazhi Kadaimadai Farmers Federation, Thiruvengadu, Nagapattinam District. CIKS has also been recognised and empanelled as a Resource Institution for the promotion of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) by Small Farmers' Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC).

CIKS is in the processes of setting up another ten Agriculture Producer Companies in six districts of Tamil Nadu, namely, Cuddalore (1), Dindigul (2), Kanchipuram (1), Nagapattinam (1), Ramanathapuram (1), Thanjavur (1) and Tiruvannamalai (3). Support for promoting these Producer Companies have been received from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), and Tamil Nadu Small Farmers' Agri-Business Consortium (TNSFAC).
